Stainless Steel Hex Bar Supplier
At Texas Alloys, we supply various grades and sizes of stainless steel hex bar to machine shops and metal fabricators for uses such as fasteners, pump shafts, and structural supports. Industries routinely using hex bar include construction, aerospace, and oil and gas.
Grades of Stainless Steel Hex Bar
The shape of stainless steel hex bar offers superior torque-resistant load-bearing capacity compared to round bar of the same diameter. Plus, the flat surfaces make it easier to machine, and the visual aesthetic makes hex bar ideal for exposed architecture. Texas Alloys & Tool Co. offers stainless steel hexagon bar in multiple grades including 303, 304/304L, and 316/316L. Not sure what grade of stainless steel is best for your project? Contact us today to get expert advice on which grade of stainless steel hex bar is best suited for your specific application.
303 Stainless Steel Hex Bar
The chemical composition and microstructure of 303 stainless steel bar gives it excellent machinability. Other features of this austenitic steel grade include:
• Chemistry: Iron, chromium, and nickel with added sulfur and phosphorus
• Heat resistance: High (up to 760 C)
• Hardness: Low to moderate (85 to 95 HRB), significantly improved with heat treatment or cold working
• Tensile strength: Moderate (500 to 750 MPa)
• Corrosion resistance: Can withstand mildly corrosive environments
• Weldability: Good, but susceptible to sensitization and intergranular corrosion
Its uses often include manufacturing precision components, fittings and fasteners, and valve components.
304 Stainless Steel Hex Bar
304 stainless steel hex bar is popular for its good formability and machinability by conventional bending, drawing, and machining techniques. It also has the following characteristics:
• Chemistry: Iron, chromium, and nickel with added manganese, silicon, and carbon
• Heat resistance: Excellent (up to 870 C)
• Hardness: Moderate to high (70 to 90 HRB)
• Tensile strength: Moderate to high (515 to 827 MPa)
• Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to acids, alkalis, and chloride solutions
• Weldability: Excellent for MIG, TIG, or stick welding
Its corrosion resistance, strength, and workability make 304 one of the most common stainless steel grades.
316 Stainless Steel Hex Bar
Compared to most other steel grades, 316 stainless steel hex bar has much better strength, toughness, and durability, making it the preferred choice for demanding applications that require excellent reliability and performance. 316 stainless steel’s features include the following:
• Chemistry: Iron, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum with added manganese, silicon, and carbon
• Heat resistance: Excellent (up to 870 C)
• Hardness: Moderate to high (70 to 90 HRB)
• Tensile strength: Moderate to high (515 to 827 MPa)
• Corrosion resistance: Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking
• Weldability: Good for MIG, TIG, or stick welding
In addition to its other applications, 316 stainless steel’s hygienic properties and biocompatibility make it suitable for medical instruments or implants.
